Wikiboot of Montreal Canada donates 2000 pairs of shoes & boots to Soles4Souls

This past August I received a call from Allen Shulman of  Wikiboot to ask if I would be interested in a donation to Soles4Souls Canada of approximately 2000 pairs of boots and shoes. I called back immediately and expressed my interest in such a donation.

When a call like this is received; with this size of donation it takes a lot of co-ordination to execute the donation.
In the ensuing weeks we were able to:
  1. Get the appropriate truck to pick-up the 15 pallets in Dorval and then deliver
  2. Secure the storage space for the shoes
  3. Get Volunteer help for the coordination.
So I want to take this opportunity to thank:
  1. Soles4Souls Volunteer Renee H. Blanchette for all of  her co-ordination to get the shoes and boots picked-up
  2.  Janik Fauteux of “ENTOURAGE, services de relocalisation” who helped Coordinate
  3. CA Déménagement who provided the driver and truck to be able to accept the donation.
  4. Jean-Claude Sentinel Storage of Montreal for the storage pace to hold the donation
  5. Allen Shulman of  Wikiboots and their team for having the foresight to make such a charitable donation
From  at Soles4Souls Canada we want to thank you all for your time and effort.
It means so much to us.

It matters what you choose to do today—not tomorrow or sometime in the future. People are hurting, and you have the ability to do something about it.
What will you do today to leave a lasting impact?
Our 10 year goal at Soles4Souls Canada is to collect 10 million pairs of gently worn shoes from every province in Canada.

Rafael is 3 and has never owned a pair of shoes, just like his 5 brothers and sisters. His mother, who lives alone with the children outside the Tegucigalpa City Dump, said she is happy her children will be able to walk to school three miles down the dirt road more safely. (Honduras has a high prevalence rate of hookworm infection, and many children like Rafael are at direct risk for infection.)

Angel   Angel is a bright-eyed 18 month-old boy living in Reynosa, Mexico. He was still learning to walk in his new pair of boots, and his parents were delighted to learn that Soles4Souls will return each year with shoes for the kids. Soles4Souls Founder Wayne Elsey (seen here) said that “Soles4Souls is committed to all the kids who receive shoes from us, because as they grow out of the shoes we need to be there again.”

WHAT'S IN YOUR CLOSET?

Do you have shoes, boots, sandals that you no longer wear (men's, women's, children's).
Soles 4 Souls - Canada will be again helping to change the world - one pair of shoes at a time.

Pat Auchinleck, Renee Blanchette and Dorothy Spevack, three members of Professional Organizers In Canada - Montreal Chapter, are volunteer co-ordinating Soles 4 Souls Montreal.
We are organizing a month long Shoe Drive in April in conjuction with the Kelowna BC and the Ottawa ON Soles 4 Soles Canada April 2012 Shoe Drive.

About twenty percent of the footwear collected are distributed to local groups who have clients in need. The rest of the footwear is distributed to adults and children in underdeveloped countries.

If you are in Montreal or the West Island, you can help (individual, company, community or faith group, school, organization).
Soles 4 Souls - Canada Shoe Drive April 2012 needs your help - footwear, drop off locations, financial donations, time.

Soles 4 Souls has already collected and distributed 17 million pairs of shoe to impoverished children and adults domestically and internationally in 127 countries.

Soles4Souls Earth Day Montreal Jour de la Terre

April 22nd is Earth Day

You don't have to go out on a limb to honor Earth Day in Montreal (Jour de la Terre), celebrated worldwide on April 22 every year.

Donate your gently worn shoes to Soles4 Souls Montreal
during April.

We are also having a special collection  on Earth Day
Sunday April 22nd 2012 at:

Coop La Maison Verte
5785 Sherbrooke St. W. NDG H4A 1X2
noon-5 pm.
For more info: 514-487-9675

Sunday April 22nd, thousands of organizations & individuals will be celebrating Earth Day.

The idea…. do something to help our environment and make our world a better place. At Soles4Souls Canada we believe that donating your gently worn shoes is the GREEN thing to do.

There are tons of discarded footwear in the landfills that when they break down the toxic glue that holds our shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere.

There are two statistics that were brought to our attention that caused us to really emphasize the importance of donating shoes rather than throwing them away….

 1) In 2011, more than 300 million pairs of shoes will end up in North American landfills.

  2) Many of those shoes take more than 40 years to break down and decompose completely.

If you combine those two facts with the reality that many of the shoes that are sitting in landfills can dispense toxins into the ground when they’re combined with non-biodegradable products like electronics, you begin to see what an impact the shoes that are thrown away have on the environment.

An even more staggering statistic is that approximately 1.4 Billion people around the world don’t own a decent pair of shoes. Meaning, the shoes that are being thrown out can actually go towards improving someone else’s life around the world. So what can you do? It’s really simple…. Take some time this weekend to clean out that closet & donate those shoes you never wear rather than throwing them out.

We’re asking people to ‘go green’ by cleaning out their closets and delivering their gently worn shoes to drop-off locations in their area.

There are thousands of official drop-off locations throughout the country that look like the photo on the right. To find a drop off location nearest you, simply click here for Canadian Drop-off Locations
